Failing is not always pleasant. Failing is embarrassing. Failing is a way to learn from mistakes. People don’t succeed because they fail, but because it is hard to give up. Successive people will say that this is their goal and will do all they can to get there.
We experience defeat daily. Everyone in this room has experienced defeat at one time or another. I have also failed. After failing the first time, some people quit. Some people are so afraid of failure that they don’t even attempt it. Some fail so many times that they never attempt again. I was there. Some may even have fallen off the cliff. Did you fear the pain or embarrassment? Did you give up?
I struggled for years to learn to ride my bike because I was afraid of losing control or falling. My dad said to me, “If you don’t try, it’s impossible to succeed.” I was so excited when I finally learned how to ride a bike again.
Failing can be very discouraging but can also serve as a learning experience. It can be a great story that you tell, it will help you grow and strengthen your mental health.
Eminem, one if the most famous rappers of today. His first stage experience was a nightmare. He couldn’t talk and got stage fright. He was mocked. Despite the shame and fear, he refused to give up. His father left him, he was abused and raised in a trailer home. But, his passion for music inspired him to channel all of his emotions and become the greatest-selling rapper and best-selling artist of the century.
Despite all the losses he had to endure throughout his entire life, he refused to give in. He took his lessons from failures and made them his motivation. He sings “Success…is my only…option, Failure’s not.” He shares his story through his music, encouraging his audience to never give up on trying again if things don’t go their way.
J.K. Rowling is another example. J.K. Rowling is often associated with Harry Potter, but most people don’t stop to consider how she got where she is today.
She struggled financially while writing Harry Potter books. She stated that this was the most difficult time of her life. Before she could get a book deal, several publishers rejected her manuscript.
Her seven books have sold over 450 million copies and won numerous awards. It has also been made into movies.
We tend to view failure negatively, but you can still succeed if we are willing to fail until we reach our goals. Most successful people will admit that their failures led to their success.
