Exploring My Dream Career: Cosmetology

My dream since high school has been to do Cosmetology. I want to go to a beauty school and do hair, helping women feel beautiful, confident, love who they are on the inside, outside, and feel confidence in themselves. All through high school I have dreamed of becoming a Cosmetologist. My goal is to attend a beauty college and work with women to help them feel confident and beautiful.

What is Cosmetology and Why Did I Choose It? Cosmetology involves beauty treatments. In the United States, there are many different types of cosmetology. However, General Cosmetology focuses mainly on hair manicures and pedicures. When I first started to play with dolls, I always wanted to fix people’s tresses. I tried to make their hair look nice and tidy. It is my desire to help others and improve their appearance that has led me to choose the field of cosmetology. As I work in this field, I will encounter many different races, hair types, and lengths. They can be long, short or curly. As long as I’m in the right mindset, I think I can assist anyone. Some people attend beauty or cosmetology schools to work for someone else, but I’d like to own my own salon. I want women to feel comfortable and safe.

The cost of cosmetology school is approximately $13,852. Beauty school requires that you are at least 16-years-old and have either a GED/diploma or HS diploma. Starting wages start at $9.14. If you work overtime, your earnings can reach $30.00. I also have the t?alents required to be successful in the cosmetology industry. They include good grooming habits and communication skills. ? For beauty school, there are certain requirements. These include continuing education after graduation, as well having education in cosmetology. Howard College, which is a local junior college, could provide me with experience. I am good at learning new skills and excelling in my field of interest. Many people attend hair schools to gain the fundamental skills they need to excel in their field. Communication, creativity and business skills are all important for a successful cosmetologist. Some other skills may be required but a lack of the most basic ones will prevent a professional from succeeding in this industry.

You cannot own a business and run it if you don’t know the basics. How can you style someone’s permanent hair without understanding what would suit their personality and face? When you are a cosmetology student, sometimes it is important to let clients know that they can be themselves and try out different hairstyles and trends. We will have to learn to work with different types of hair as new trends emerge and become popular. My family is made up of many different races and the hair of one person is different from another. It is important to make the customer feel comfortable and want to recommend you to others. If you are not nice and respectful, and do their hair, they may give a negative review and stop coming. Cosmetology is not something you study in college. You go to a beauty institute and take classes. It’s not easy with no work and having to pay for school, food and accommodation. Because I’m such a girly-girl, I want to always be doing hair. I love taking care of myself and helping others look better.

Everybody has a dream of being an independent adult. Being on your own, however, is difficult. Your childhood life will not be what you experience as an adults. This is why I plan to save money and concentrate on living the best and most fulfilling life for myself.
