Hospitals are not places that many people like to visit, let alone stay for days and weeks. You want the hospital staff to be excellent with you if you happen to end up in the hospital. It could be the nurse, or the doctor. They will both be in constant contact with you. It is essential to have a good bedside way in order to build trust and rapport with your patients. If a patient feels comfortable with their doctor, they will be more open and honest with them about their health condition. Our professors will teach us the proper way to act at the patient’s side. From the beginning, as a student of nursing, you should work on improving your bedside manner. A healthcare professional’s bedside manner is how they communicate and interact with their patients. By putting yourself into the patient’s position, you can easily establish a good bedside way. Patients and staff will respect your abilities if you have good bedside manners. I believe that I have good bedside habits because I am compassionate and empathetic.
Being compassionate will show a caring attitude. Researchers have found that being kind and compassionate to others and feeling compassion can be beneficial to our health, both for those who give and receive. Nurses are often the first person that patients will see after surgery, or even if they just stay overnight in the hospital. The outcome of a patient can be affected by making them feel compassion. It’s important to me to be empathetic in order to better understand the needs of my patients. In everyday situations, I give positive words to my patients to instill confidence. It is beneficial for both patient and nurse to be compassionate. Nurses who are concerned about the health of their patients, and their fear and pain, tend to be happier and more satisfied with their profession.
It is important to be empathetic when dealing with patients. I will gain their trust and increase their confidence. The providers who have meaningful conversations with patients gain more insight into the patient. This includes how to convey difficult news, what information is motivating and much more. She was in a position to enter the patient’s room, and help them feel better emotionally as well as physically. She was able to make the patient feel better by making sure they understood and giving her hope. Students in medical and nursing schools are taught to imagine themselves as the patient. Caretakers should not dismiss a client’s concerns because they are routine. For many, hospitalization is one of their most stressful moments. I will be present and fully involved in each interaction with the patient so that both they and the rest my team can benefit.
It is vital to have good communication skills in every day life. A nurse should also communicate well with patients. I don’t assume that patients understand medical jargon or vocabulary used in the workplace. Clarity is key when explaining treatment or procedures. Patients will feel more confident if you are clear. A nurse will ask the patients if you are doing something they do not understand. Uncertainty is one of the reasons people are afraid in hospitals. By learning more about your condition, you can reduce your fear. It is easy to be distracted by multiple tasks. For good care it’s important to stay focused. Since I practice this daily with my family and friends, I am confident that I will have a great rapport with any patient. Communication with loved ones and explaining things in a way they can understand will help them feel like they are able to overcome any situation. It is important for a patient to be able to communicate and to feel hopeful.

Make sure you don’t abandon your oath for providing quality care. Bedside manner is important in nursing. Bedside manners are something I can improve on every day because as a student nurse, we have to interact with others. A nurse’s interactions are with people who can be confused, scared or alone.
